On the morning of April 1, 2026, Vietnam Maritime University (VMU) solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate its 70th anniversary of foundation (April 1, 1956 - April 1, 2026), marking a significant milestone in its proud history of development and international integration.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including leaders from the Government, ministries, and Hai Phong City; representatives of domestic and international organizations, enterprises, and diplomatic agencies; along with generations of faculty members, alumni, and students of the University.
In the commemorative speech, the University’s President - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Duong reviewed the 70-year journey of formation and development. Founded in 1956, VMU has continuously evolved into a leading institution in maritime education and the marine economy in Vietnam.

Throughout its development, the University has made significant contributions to national construction and defense, training tens of thousands of engineers, seafarers, and experts who have played important roles across various sectors. The University has also received numerous prestigious honors from the Party and the State and has strengthened its international standing, including contributing to Vietnam’s inclusion in the IMO “White List” and becoming a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU).
At the ceremony, government representatives highly commended VMU’s achievements, affirming its role as a key center for high-quality human resource training, scientific research, and technology transfer serving the sustainable development of the marine economy.

Looking ahead, VMU is entering a new phase of strategic development following the Government’s approval of the project to develop Vietnam Maritime University into a national key university for training and research serving the sustainable development of the seaward economy for the period up to 2030, with a vision to 2045. The University aims to further enhance training quality, promote innovation, strengthen international cooperation, and gradually reach regional and international standards.
