Vietnam Maritime University hosted the meeting with Trade Commissioner of Sweden to Vietnam

On September 15, 2026, Vietnam Maritime University (VMU) hosted the meeting with the Sweden Delegation led by Mr. Marcus Persson, Trade Commissioner of Sweden to Vietnam and Country Manager of Business Sweden Vietnam. The meeting focused on emerging trends in the maritime sector and explored opportunities for cooperation between VMU and Swedish universities, research organizations, and businesses in education, scientific research, innovation, and sustainable development.

Overview of the working session

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc, Vice President of VMU, expressed his appreciation to Mr. Marcus Persson - Trade Commissioner of Sweden to Vietnam, Country Manager of Business Sweden Vietnam and the Sweden Delegation for their interest in and support for connecting VMU with Swedish partners.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc emphasized that, as a National key university specializing in maritime education and training, VMU places strong emphasis on international cooperation and on linking education and research with the practical needs of the maritime industry and global development trends. He highlighted digital transformation, green ports, smart ports, sustainable development, and innovation as areas of significant interest and potential for international cooperation.

The two sides discussed opportunities for collaboration in port modernization, digitalization, green and smart ports, sustainable maritime development, shipbuilding, and related industries. Mr. Marcus Persson also introduced the role of the Swedish Trade and Invest Council in supporting Swedish companies in international expansion and promoting cooperation in infrastructure, innovation, sustainability, and industrial development.

The meeting also explored opportunities to strengthen connections between VMU and Swedish universities, research institutions, and businesses. Building on the long-standing relationship between VMU and World Maritime University (WMU) in Sweden, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in maritime education, research, innovation, and human resource development.

In addition, the participants exchanged views on marine technology, international experience, technical approaches, and legal and regulatory issues related to floating port infrastructure, as well as future trends in port modernization, digital transformation, green and smart ports, and sustainable maritime development.

The meeting provided an opportunity for Vietnam Maritime University to expand its international network and identify potential areas for practical cooperation with Swedish partners. Through the connecting role of the Swedish Trade and Invest Council and its network of universities, organizations, and companies, VMU looks forward to further cooperation in education, scientific research, innovation, technology transfer, and industry engagement, contributing to the modernization and sustainable development of Vietnam’s maritime sector.
