From August 6 to 8, 2026, Vietnam Maritime University (VMU) solemnly held its 2026 Graduation Ceremony for nearly 2,000 graduates. The ceremony marked an important milestone as the University is actively implementing the Project on “Develop Vietnam Maritime University to be the National key university for education and research serving the sustainable development of Vietnam’s seaward economy by 2030, with a vision to 2045”, approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 1901/QĐ-TTg dated September 5th, 2025.
Overview of the 2026 Graduation Ceremony
The Ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Duong, President of VMU, and attended by the Representatives of the University’s Party Committee, Vice Presidents, departments and faculties, as well as the families and friends of the graduates.
Authorized by the President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Anh Dung, Director of the Department of Academic Affairs, announced commendations for 39 valedictorians and the recognition of 1,874 graduates, including 1,811 full-time undergraduate students and 63 in-service students.
Addressing the Ceremony, President Pham Xuan Duong emphasized that the University is implementing comprehensive measures to enhance the quality of education and scientific research in line with international standards. Student achievements in education, research, innovation, volunteer activities and international integration have contributed to the University’s 70-year tradition and affirmed the quality of human resources that VMU provides for the maritime, logistics and marine economy sectors. Among these achievements, Nguyen Mai Chi, a student of International School of Education, won the Gold Medal in Microsoft Excel (Microsoft 365 Apps) at the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship (MOSWC) 2026.
In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the rapid development of artificial intelligence, President Pham Xuan Duong highlighted that professional knowledge must be accompanied by ethics, discipline, responsibility, compassion and a strong desire to contribute. He encouraged the graduates to embrace lifelong learning, innovation and creativity, and to carry forward VMU’s core values as they enter the global workforce and contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam’s marine economy.

The President also expressed his sincere gratitude to the families of the graduates, as well as VMU’s staff, lecturers, enterprises and domestic and international partners for their continued support.
The Graduates took a commemorative photo with the University’s leaders and representatives of its units.
The Ceremony concluded with the proud moment marking the end of one journey and the beginning of another. As among the first cohorts to graduate while VMU is accelerating the implementation of the Project, the graduates will carry forward the University’s spirit of “Intelligence, Courage, Resilience, Passion, and Love” contributing to VMU’s continued development and to the aspiration of building Vietnam into a strong maritime nation that prospers from the sea.
