On 11-12 December 2025, Vietnam Maritime University (VMU) welcomed the Delegation from the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) for the assessment of Vietnam’s implementation of the STCW 78/2010 Convention. Representatives of the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration also participated in the working sessions.

The EMSA Delegation was received by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Duong, President of Vietnam Maritime University, together with the University’s Vice Presidents and leaders of relevant faculties, departments and Crew Training Center. At the meeting, VMU introduced its training capacity, featuring diversified programs at undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels serving the maritime, logistics and related industries...
During the working sessions, the University provided detailed information on its governance, training and assessment activities, quality assurance system, research and international cooperation activities.
EMSA representatives highly appreciated VMU’s scale, professional preparation, and transparent documentation.
Following two days of inspections covering the quality standard system; course design, review and approval; assessment of competence and examination, training facilities, etc. The Delegation delivered a preliminary assessment and recommendations to further enhance maritime education and training at Vietnam Maritime University, and in Vietnam as well.
