Q:Do I need a visa to study in Vietnam?

A: Yes. International students are required to obtain a short-term visa (visa DH) before entering Vietnam.

 

Q: How can I apply for a student visa?

A: After receiving the official admission notice from Vietnam Maritime University, the International Relations Department will assist with the visa guarantee.

     In addition, applicants are advised to check visa information with the Vietnamese Embassy in their home country and review applicable visa exemption policies on the website of the Vietnam Immigration Department. (Exemption of entry Visa to Vietnam)

 

Q: Can the university assist with visa extension?

A: Yes. The university’s Student Affairs Department will support students with visa extension and necessary documentation during their study period.

 

Q: Is on-campus accommodation available for international students?

A: Yes. Vietnam Maritime University provides on-campus dormitory accommodation for international students.

 

Q: What facilities are available in the dormitory?

A: The dormitory is equipped with basic furniture, shared or private rooms (for an additional fee), internet access (for an additional fee), security, and common facilities such as laundry areas and study spaces.

 

Q: How much does dormitory accommodation cost?

A: Accommodation fees are affordable and depend on room type. Detailed and updated pricing will be provided upon application or acceptance.

 

Q: Am I required to stay in the university dormitory?

A: No. Students may choose not to stay in the university dormitory. However, they must inform the university in advance. In addition, the landlord of the off-campus accommodation is required to complete temporary residence registration in accordance with local regulations.

 

Q: What language are courses taught in?

A: Courses for international and exchange students are taught in English or Vietnamese, depending on the program.

 

Q: Is Vietnamese language support provided?

A: No. However, students may inform the university in advance if support is needed, and the university can assist with referrals where possible.

 

Q: Are medical facilities available on campus?

A: Yes. The university has on-campus medical services and is located near hospitals and clinics in Hai Phong city.

 

Q: What is the cost of living in Hai Phong?

A: Hai Phong is relatively affordable compared to major cities. Monthly living expenses typically range from USD 120 - 200, depending on lifestyle.

 

Q: Can we cook our own meals in the dormitory?

A: No. Cooking is not permitted in the university dormitory.

 

Q: Do I have to pay for electricity and water in the dormitory (for students receiving a 100% scholarship that covers dormitory accommodation)?

A: Yes. Electricity and water fees are not included in the scholarship and must be paid separately by students.

 

Q: Will I receive support upon arrival in Vietnam?

A: Yes. The International Relations Department provides arrival support, including airport guidance, campus orientation, and student registration assistance.

 

Q: Does the university provide airport pick-up services for international students?

A: No. The university does not provide airport pick-up services. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation upon arrival in Vietnam.

 

Q: Are there student clubs or activities for international students?

A: Yes. International students are encouraged to join student clubs, cultural exchange activities, sports events, and international student networks.

 

Q: Am I allowed to work part-time to cover my living expenses?

A: No. International students are not permitted to work part-time in Vietnam, student visas are issued for study purposes only.

 

Q: What should I do if I have academic or personal difficulties?

A: Students can contact academic advisors, the relevant faculty/institute, the Student Affairs Department or the International Relations Departnent for support and counseling.
