Vietnam Maritime University received the Full Mission Engine Room Simulator donated by NS United Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd

Vietnam Maritime University (VMU), in cooperation with NS United Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd. (NSU), Japan, held a ceremony on June 9, 2026 to mark the handover of the Full Mission Engine Room Simulator donated by NSU in support of maritime education and the development of highly qualified maritime human resources in Vietnam.

The event marked a new milestone in the long-standing partnership between VMU and NSU, which officially began in 1996 when the first Vietnamese seafarers joined NSU’s fleet. Over nearly three decades, the two organizations have continuously expanded their cooperation in maritime education, training, and human resource development.

The symbolic handover of the donation

Vietnam Maritime University presented a commemorative gift to NS United Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd.

In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Duong, President of Vietnam Maritime University, emphasized that NSU has been one of the University’s most trusted and enduring partners. In addition to providing scholarships, internships, and employment opportunities for Vietnamese students and seafarers, NSU has made significant contributions to the development of maritime training facilities at VMU and VINIC - the Company for Training, Labors Supply and Maritime Services Ltd., particularly during the University’s formative years, when training resources were still limited.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Kazuma Yamanaka, President of NS United Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd., reaffirmed NSU’s strong commitment to supporting maritime education in Vietnam. He noted that, as VMU celebrates its 70th anniversary and the two organizations approach three decades of cooperation, NSU aimed to make a meaningful contribution to the University’s future development. The decision to donate the Full Mission Engine Room Simulator followed extensive discussions with VMU regarding the modernization of engine-room training in response to the rapidly evolving maritime industry and the global transition toward greener shipping technologies.

The Full Mission Engine Room Simulator provides a highly realistic training environment that replicates ship engine-room operations and incorporates advanced technologies currently used on modern vessels, including LNG and dual-fuel engine systems. The simulator will provide students, cadets, and seafarers with hands-on training opportunities in an environment that closely reflects real ship operations and international maritime standards.

Mr. Hoang Hong Giang, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration, highly appreciated the enduring partnership between VMU and NSU, describing it as a successful model of university-industry cooperation in developing highly qualified maritime professionals for Vietnam and the international maritime sector.

Following the handover ceremony, delegates participated in the inauguration of the simulator facility. The newly installed system is expected to further enhance VMU’s training capacity, support the development of highly qualified seafarers, and contribute to the University’s strategic goal of becoming a national key university in education and research serving the sustainable development of Vietnam’s maritime economy.
