On July 16, 2026 Vietnam Maritime University (VMU) welcomed the senior Delegation from NYK Energy Ocean Corporation (NEOC), Japan to discuss opportunities for strengthening cooperation in maritime education, seafarer development, and the supply of high-quality maritime human resources.
The meeting was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Duong, President of VMU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Standing Vice President, the Representatives of the University's relevant departments. The NEOC delegation was led by Mr. Chikaraishi, President of NEOC, together with his colleagues.
During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Duong, President of VMU introduced VMU’s educational and research strengths, international cooperation activities, and strategic development vision, highlighting the University’s goal of becoming the National key university serving the sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy. He also emphasized VMU's advanced training facilities and state-of-the-art simulation systems, which are continuously upgraded to meet the standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The Representative of NEOC, Mr. Chikaraishi, President of NEOC expressed their sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by VMU and highly commended the University’s training quality. They reaffirmed NEOC’s confidence in VMU as a trusted strategic partner and expressed their desire to further expand cooperation in maritime education and the development of highly qualified seafarers.
Over the years, Vietnam Maritime University, through its VICMAC Seafarer Center, has become a reliable partner of NEOC in supplying competent seafarers for the company’s energy fleet. VICMAC currently manages crews operating eight vessels within NEOC's fleet and also provides personnel for six additional ship crews managed by NEOC. This long-standing collaboration demonstrates VMU's excellence in maritime education and its ability to develop seafarers who meet the stringent requirements of the global shipping industry.

Both parties discussed potential areas for future cooperation
The visit further strengthened the long-standing partnership between Vietnam Maritime University and NYK Energy Ocean Corporation while opening up new opportunities for collaboration in education, training, and the development of high-quality maritime professionals. It also reaffirmed VMU's position as one of Vietnam's leading maritime universities and a trusted provider of internationally qualified human resources for the global maritime industry.
