On January 13, 2026, Vietnam Maritime University (VMU) welcomed and held a working session with Professor Kato Takaaki from the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, The University of Kitakyushu (Japan) to discuss cooperation opportunities, particularly a joint research project on developing risk indicators in maritime and inland waterway sectors. The proposed project aims to assess and mitigate risks caused by accidents and natural disasters, contributing to sustainable marine economic development.

The meeting was hosted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc - Vice President of VMU, along with representatives of relevant departments, faculties and centers. VMU introduced its training and research capacity, especially in maritime safety, inland waterway safety, coastal area safety, and marine environmental protection. Prof. Kato Takaaki, an experienced expert who has participated in numerous international research projects, shared years of experience cooperating and working with partners in Vietnam, including in Hai Phong City.
Through cooperation with The University of Kitakyushu and Prof. Kato Takaaki, Vietnam Maritime University hopes that both sides will enhance mutual collaboration, combining research capacity, practical data, and international experience to effectively implement joint projects with high scientific and practical value.
