The 22nd Asian Conference on Maritime System and Safety Research (ACMSSR 2025) took place at Vietnam Maritime University

On September 11-12, 2025, Vietnam Maritime University (VMU), in collaboration with Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, co-hosted the 22nd Asian Conference on Maritime System and Safety Research (ACMSSR 2025) in Hai Phong.

The conference gathered nearly 60 leading experts from VMU and regional institutions such as Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, Japan Coast Guard Academy, Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering, Changwon National University, National Taiwan Ocean University, etc. to share knowledge and expertise, update on technological advancements, and strengthen academic cooperation in maritime systems and safety.

Within the framework of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc - Vice President, reaffirmed VMU’s long-standing cooperation with international partners. In addition, he emphasised the importance of technological research for enhancing maritime safety and competitiveness, and believed that the conference will promote the proposal of further initiatives for collaboration. Prof. Hyeon Kyu Yoon thanked VMU for its support, affirmed ACMSSR’s role in connecting experts, and agreed to work on implementing VMU’s proposals after the conference.

The conference featured five technical sessions with 30 academic papers on Education and Training using Marine Simulators; Advanced Marine Simulators and Simulation Technologies; Research using Simulators and Simulation; Human factors; Maritime Technology; E-Navigation. Presentations highlighted both theoretical significance and practical value, contributing to sustainable development and innovation in the maritime sector.

As part of the program, delegates visited VMU’s typical maritime training and simulation facilities, and the Haiphong Port TIL International Terminal (HTIT).

The successful hosting of ACMSSR 2025 demonstrates VMU’s commitment to educational innovation, scientific research, and international integration. It also contributes to the Decision No. 1901/QĐ-TTg dated September 5th, 2025 of The Prime Minister of Vietnam on approval of the Project on developing Vietnam Maritime University into the national key university for training and research to serve the sustainable development of the seaward economy in the period to 2030, with a vision to 2045. /.
