On September 18, 2026, Vietnam Maritime University (VMU) participated online in the Opening Ceremony of the Center for Maritime Humanities Research at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) in Moscow.

The ceremony brought together representatives of maritime research and educational institutions, scholars, and experts from Vietnam, Russia, and other countries. N.P. Patrushev, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the significance of the Center for advancing maritime humanities research and promoting international academic cooperation. From the Vietnamese side, Senior Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, also attended the ceremony and delivered remarks, contributing to the exchange of views on maritime research and international cooperation.
At the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Duong, President of VMU, delivered a congratulatory speech, welcoming the establishment of the Center and highlighting the importance of a human-centered approach to maritime research.
He emphasized that the sea is not only a geographical space, but also a space of trade, cultural exchange, the preservation of maritime traditions, and the development of coastal communities. Therefore, maritime research should combine technical and scientific perspectives with studies of people, history, society, and maritime culture.
