Gen Memo 03/15: Nautical Institute Survey / Ballast Water / Shipping in Troubled Waters / Wind Power / BIMCO

1. Nautical Institute Survey
Over recent years, The Nautical Institute has received growing feedback from young seafarers who support the prospect of academic recognition based on their STCW qualifications and professional experience.
The Nautical Institute has therefore established a project to ascertain the interest of STCW qualified seafarers worldwide, for an academic ‘top-up’ programme that would lead to the award of a bachelors or masters degree. This top up programme would only be available to them as a result of their professional qualification and experience.
The questionnaire that follows is the first phase in a piece of research that will inform The Nautical Institute and others in the industry of the global interest of serving and former serving seafarers for degree level qualifications. Respondents of this questionnaire will be invited to participate in the second phase, which will explore in more detail the process by which seafarers would prefer to study and be awarded a degree level qualification.
As someone very well connected to STCW qualified seafarers, I would be grateful if you could forward this link appropriate contacts you or your organisation has and encourage them to complete our short questionnaire entitled “Degrees 4 seafarers”.   Alternatively, they may copy the following address into the address bar of their web browser and complete the survey from there:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Degrees4Seafarers
