(1) Overview:

The master's degree in Maritime Safety Assurance aims to provide students with general knowledge as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training and specialized knowledge that is vertically transferred, expanded and advanced from modules at the undegraduate level of the undergraduate training program specializing in Marine Safety Engineering – which is in-depth knowledge in the field of Maritime Safety, including: Maritime traffic safety and Port-waterway and maritime operation management; skills in applying such knowledge to practical professional activities; Ability to work independently, think creatively and have the ability to detect and solve problems in the training and professional sectors.

 

(2) Program Objectives:

Training at the master's level in in application-oriented Maritime Safety Assurance to provide students their professional knowledge and operational skills; ability to work independently, creatively; have the ability to design products, apply research results, detect and organize the implementation of complex jobs in professional activities, promote and effectively use specialized knowledge in the performance of specific jobs, suitable to actual conditions at the agency,  organizations and economic units; You can learn some basic knowledge and research methods as required by the doctoral training major to continue participating in the doctoral training program.

This degree in Maritime Safety Engineering explores general knowledge as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training and specialized knowledge that is vertically transferred, expanded and advanced from modules at the undegraduate level of the undergraduate training program specializing in Marine Safety Engineering – which is in-depth knowledge in the field of Maritime Safety, including: Maritime traffic safety and Port-waterway and maritime operation management.

The master degree in Maritime Safety Engineering allows students to work independently or in research groups, have creative ability, have political and moral qualities, have a sense of serving the people, meet the demand for high-quality human resources to serve the country's marine economic development strategy.

The master degree in Maritime Safety program will give students knowledges of:

+ Maritime traffic safety techniques: Maritime reliability theory; Numerical Methods and Optimization Techniques in Marine Safety Simulation; Safe navigation; Techniques for ensuring maritime safety in confined waters; Maritime traffic safety management, ...

+ Construction of works to ensure maritime traffic safety: Oceanography; Theoretical basis of reliability works; Dredging techniques in marine construction; Technical operation of port and waterway facilities; Coastal and island protection structures; Waterway engineering; Construction project management,...

b.    Management of port-waterway and maritime operations: Sustainable management and operation of port and waterways; Application of GIS and remote sensing in port – waterway and maritime management; Safety assessment and risk management of ports, waterways and maritime navigation; Analysis of investment efficiency of port – waterway and maritime projects...

The degree provides graduates with transferable skills, including:

1.   Skills in analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating data and information to provide solutions to maritime safety issues scientifically;

2.   Skills in imparting knowledge based on research, discussing professional and scientific issues in  the Maritime Safety Assurance industry  and with others;

3.   Advanced skills in organizing, administering and managing professional activities;

4.   Skills in researching, developing and using  technology to ensure maritime safety creatively  in the academic and professional fields;

5.   Firmly grasp international and Vietnamese standards in the field of ensuring maritime safety.

6.   Independent working skills; Ability to refer to technical literature, learn how to gain experience to complete tasks on your own in a wide field of study.

7.   Teamwork skills: ability to participate actively, effectively and functionally in a work group.

The degree in Maritime Safety Engineering graduates will be equipped with foreign language and computer skills:

1.   Foreign language: Having foreign language proficiency equivalent to level 4/6 of the Vietnamese Foreign Language Proficiency Framework; knowledge of specialized English, ability to read and understand specialized English documents.

2.   Computer skills: Effective use of computers as well as office software, specialized software of construction engineering.

Upon completion of the program, graduates would be dynamic, creative, adaptable to modern working environments and enhance their employment prospects in the increasingly competitive regional labor markets, thereby making valuable contribution to national economic and social development, national defense, and international integration.
