Vietnam Maritime University participated in the Ministry of Construction’s Delegation attending the 34th Session of the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization

From November 24 to 28, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc - Vice President of Vietnam Maritime University (VMU) - joined the Ministry of Construction’s Delegation led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Xuan Sang to attend the 34th Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London.

IMO Assembly 34 - the Organization’s highest governing session - addressed major global maritime issues, including maritime safety, protection of the marine environment, technical cooperation, and long-term strategies for sustainable maritime development. Participation in these discussions has enabled VMU to keep up with international regulatory developments and further refine its training programs, seafarer-training models, and research directions.

During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc also joined the Vietnamese Delegation in an official meeting with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez. Deputy Minister Nguyen Xuan Sang reaffirmed Vietnam’s support for IMO’s role, while the Secretary-General recognized Vietnam’s progress in the maritime sector and expressed willingness to provide technical support. The Delegation also conducted bilateral meetings with representatives from the United Kingdom and the United States, discussing potential cooperation in maritime transport, inland waterways, and emissions reduction aligned with IMO’s green transition objectives.

On the sidelines of the Assembly, Vice President Nguyen Minh Duc met with universities/institutions such as the World Maritime University (main campus in Sweden), the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (Philippines), and the IMO International Maritime Law Institute (Malta) to promote collaboration in postgraduate training, academic exchange, and joint research - further strengthening VMU’s international partnership network.

The outcomes of the 34th IMO Assembly continue to reinforce the international standing of Vietnam Maritime University and Vietnam’s maritime sector. The participation of Vice President Nguyen Minh Duc in the Delegation helped VMU stay updated with IMO developments, contributing to the enhancement of training, seafarer-training, and research activities.
