The Architecture and Interior training program at Vietnam Maritime University, designed by the Faculty of Architecture and Interior, is based on leading programs from domestic and international universities. It is regularly updated to meet the demands of the architecture and design industry while complying with the Ministry of Education & Training and Vietnam Maritime University regulations. The program equips students with essential knowledge, skills, and professional ethics. It aligns with the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework and international standards, preparing graduates to thrive in the global architecture and interior design market. Graduates of the program receive a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Interior, possessing the ability to conceptualize, design, and implement architectural and interior projects. They are dynamic, creative, and adaptable professionals ready to contribute to national development and integrate into international markets. Graduates can pursue roles such as: Architectural Designers; Interior Designers; Urban Planners; Landscape Designers; 3D Visualization Specialists; BIM (Building Information Modeling) Coordinators; Project Managers in Construction and Design; Sustainable Design Consultants; Furniture Designers; Exhibition and Set Designers; Design Researchers and Academics. These roles span architectural and interior design, construction supervision, project management, 3D modeling and visualization, sustainable design consulting, and research and development in the design field.
The Bachelor of Architecture and Interior program at Vietnam Maritime University provides a balanced education of theory, practical skills, and creative thinking, preparing students to tackle real-world challenges and excel in the design and architecture industry.
2. Curriculum
The Bachelor of Architecture and Interior Design program is designed to equip students with a strong foundation in both creative design and technical skills, preparing them for diverse careers in the architecture and interior design industries. Spanning eight semesters, the program balances theory, design practice, and real-world experience, gradually building students’ knowledge and abilities across key areas of the profession.
The journey begins in the first semester, where students are introduced to the field of architecture and interior design. This foundational stage focuses on helping students understand the basic principles of design, space, and form. Courses such as Introduction to Architecture and Interior Design, along with Sculpture and Form Creation, encourage students to develop their creative thinking and artistic expression while exploring three-dimensional modeling.
In the second semester, students start building their technical skills, learning how to express ideas through precise drawings and visual presentations. Courses such as Technical Drawing and Graphics, Architectural Fundamentals, and Structural Mechanics provide essential knowledge about design principles and the behavior of structures. At the same time, Fine Arts helps students develop a deeper understanding of aesthetics, while the Small-scale Project Workshop allows them to apply creative solutions to real design challenges.
The third semester deepens students' understanding of architectural history and interior design styles, giving them context for modern and traditional design approaches. Architectural Design Theory introduces conceptual thinking, while Computer-Aided Design (CAD) provides practical skills in digital drawing and modeling. Courses in construction materials, architectural graphics, and quick design exercises help sharpen technical competence and creativity. Fine Arts continues to strengthen their ability to visualize and communicate ideas effectively.
By the fourth semester, students are ready to tackle more advanced concepts such as furniture structures and interior detailing. They learn how to apply technology in architecture, design residential and industrial buildings, and develop solutions for low-rise housing. A specialized course in Heritage Conservation introduces the importance of preserving architectural history. Throughout this semester, students also improve their technical drawing skills specifically for construction documentation.
The fifth semester focuses heavily on interior design and professional practice. Students further enhance their creativity and speed through advanced quick design sessions. They study structural systems in both civil and industrial buildings, gaining a deeper understanding of how design integrates with engineering. Interior Design and Equipment for Buildings allows students to explore furniture, materials, and space planning. Workshops on educational facility design challenge them to balance functionality and aesthetics. Practical field sketching and architectural site visits connect their classroom learning to real-world contexts, while courses in Art History and Interior Finishing Materials broaden their design vocabulary and material knowledge.
In the sixth semester, sustainability and technology integration become central themes. Students study Sustainable Architecture, exploring environmental responsibility and energy-efficient design. Architectural Physics helps them understand the relationship between the built environment and physical forces such as light, sound, and heat. They participate in specialized design workshops focused on sports facilities, while also learning to use Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology—a crucial tool in modern architecture. The semester also covers the design of public buildings and introduces residential urban planning, giving students a more comprehensive view of how architecture fits into larger community contexts.
The seventh semester is dedicated to complex design challenges and advanced applications. Students develop projects focused on commercial and service spaces, high-rise residential buildings, and industrial facilities. They deepen their understanding of construction techniques and project execution while engaging in a comprehensive interior design workshop that brings together all the skills and knowledge they have gained. Additionally, courses on Urban Ecology and Environmental Planning help students understand the environmental impact of their designs and the importance of sustainable development.
Finally, the eighth semester provides students with the opportunity to apply everything they have learned in a professional context. Through a graduation internship, students gain practical experience in the architecture and interior design industry, working alongside professionals on real-world projects. The program concludes with a Graduation Thesis Project, where students independently develop a comprehensive architectural or interior design proposal. This capstone project showcases their creativity, technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and readiness to enter the professional world.
Throughout the program, students are encouraged to think critically, experiment with ideas, and develop a strong design sensibility. By combining artistic creativity with technical expertise, the Bachelor of Architecture and Interior Design program prepares graduates to confidently pursue careers in architecture, interior design, urban planning, and related fields.
