The Inland Waterway Business training program at Vietnam Maritime University, designed by the Faculty of Economics, draws upon programs from various esteemed domestic and international universities. Regularly updated to align with industry needs and adhere to the Ministry of Education & Training and Vietnam Maritime University regulations, the program equips learners with essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes. It meets the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework and international standards, preparing graduates to excel in the 21st-century workforce. Graduates of the program earn a bachelor's degree in Inland Waterway Business, with the ability to manage and implement water transport economic activities. They are dynamic, creative, and adaptable, ready to compete in the Asia-Pacific region and contribute to national development and international integration. Graduates are qualified for roles such as staffs, managers of inland waterway transport companies, inland waterway ports, passenger terminals, freight forwarding and logistics companies, lecturers at universities or colleges and scientific research specialists. These roles encompass tasks ranging from doing transport business, inspecting and supervising water transport vehicles, providing freight forwarding and logistics services, doing warehouses services, training and researching. The program ensures that graduates are well-equipped to meet societal inland waterway business needs and excel in their respective fields.

2. Curriculum

The Bachelor of Inland Waterway Business program is organized into 8 semesters as follows:

Over eight semesters, students follow a well-rounded curriculum blending theory and practice. In Semester I, they build foundational skills through Algebra and Principles of Money and Finance, which explores financial systems and currency theories. Introduction to Economics provides economic fundamentals, while Microeconomics examines market mechanisms and price formation. Optional courses include Microsoft Office for software proficiency and General English 1 for language improvement.

Semester II enhances students' knowledge through courses such as Probability Theory and Statistics cover random variables and probability distributions, while Principles of Statistics provide fundamental statistical concepts. General Law highlights the role of laws in daily life. Macroeconomics explores key economic variables, and Taxation covers essential tax regulations. Optional courses include General English 2, Soft Skills 1 and Environment and Environmental Protection.

Semester III explores key subjects such as Principles of Accounting, offering fundamental insights into Vietnamese accounting. Econometrics enhances skills in regression modeling and testing, while Fundamentals of Stock Market provides a global market overview. General English 3 strengthens language proficiency. Optional courses include Public Economics and Corporate Culture.

Semester IV delves into advanced topics such as Fundamentals of Logistics and Supply Chain, providing foundational knowledge of logistics operations. International Trade Transactions introduces common global trade methods, while Insurance focuses on key aspects of the insurance industry. Economic Law examines practical legal issues in business, and Cargoes in Transport explores the characteristics and handling requirements of transported goods. Optional courses include Financial Management and Business Management.

In Semester V, students study Inland waterway transport Geography, which covers characteristics of Vietnam's river and canal systems and Transport Economics is about characteristics of the transport industry. Theory and Structures of Ship teaches about the technical and operational characteristics of ships, and Introduction to Material Handling & Lifting Equipment introduces basic knowledge about the operating principles of lifting machines. Port Economics, Shipping Law and Transport Modelling are optional courses that enhance students' technical expertise.

Semester VI covers specialized subjects, including Research Methodology in Economics, Port Management & Operations provides insights into port production, while Ship Resistance and Propulsion explores ship resistance and propulsion systems. Waterway Management Engineering highlights the role of water transport in the economy, and Law of Inland Waterway Transport focuses on Vietnamese regulations. Optional courses include Warehouse Operations, Port Construction, and Strategic Supply Chain Management for additional expertise.

Semester VII includes Inland Ship Operations & Management which provides in-depth knowledge about managing and operating inland waterway fleet, while Organizing Labours & Wages explore the systematic knowledge of scientific labor organization. Freight Forwarding, Banking Operations and Scientific Management provide advanced knowledge and hands-on experience. The Internship 1 provides practical industry experience. Optional courses include Soft skills 2, Corporate Accounting, Creative Entrepreneurship. In the final semester, students consolidate their learning through practical applications. The Internship 2 immerses them in real-world challenges, and the Dissertation showcases their ability to integrate and apply knowledge from previous semesters.
